Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Fire!

Have you ever had a bad day... and one that keeps getting worse? I have. In fact going to work yesterday, after a long holiday vacation, sure felt that way! :-) Comics (and indeed most forms of modern story-telling) seem to incorporate miserable and funny circumstances into major plot points. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't - but this issue kept me smiling as Akiko and her friends keep getting into worse and worse situations. Fun isn't it?

Synopsis:

So, at the end of Akiko #1 our daring band of misfit rescuers was plunging into the sea... and this issue begins with them being yanked out of it in a big pirate's net! Up on the teeming sky ship, the 5 friends are strung up before the hordes of crew, and then taken back to the Sky Cove (which is apparently the pirates' floating city) where they are sold to a couple of wealthy looking gentlemen. After being loaded into an old time circus cart the team is taken to a coliseum where one of them will be chosen to do battle against a giant robot!

My 2 Cents:

• It may not be a complicated or wordy story, and it only takes 15 minutes to read through it (and that's only if you're reading slowly!) but this issue is still a blast to read! The funny dialogue, the subtle humor and the amusing art all combine to make one dang fun comic!
• Once again the black and white art was beautiful, and I found myself soaking in the visuals on each page before finally forcing myself to move on.
• Spuckler and Mr. Beeba are great characters, and the way their words play off each other's dialogue makes the reading of this comic book even more fun!
