Dracula Rises!
The seductive blood sucker makes a timely appearance in this issue of Thor, and is immediately drawn to the beautiful Sif. Can't say I blame him though, but will she be worth the price of her angry boyfriend? Hmm, my money's on Thor.
Synopsis:
"Blood of a Goddess!" This issue begins with Thor's alter ego, Donald Blake, being questioned about the disappearance of Jane Foster. Thor is worried about what might have become of Jane, so he begins an investigation of his own. This leads him and Sif to several places in both New York and Chicago as they try to track down the missing Runestaff of Kamo Tharnn - which Sif last used to revive Jane by transferring her own energy into Jane's body. Meanwhile Dracula's followers bring him back to roam the streets of Chicago, where he attacks a group of teenagers and makes them into undead monsters themselves! Never fear, though, because Thor is onto Drac's scheme and uses his trusty hammer to vanquish the newly undead before they can cause any harm. But unbeknownst to our favorite blond god is the fact that Dracula is secretly seeking the blood of the immortal goddess Sif - and he is getting closer by the minute! Run, Sif, run!
My 2 Cents:
- I found this issue to be more fun than it logically should have been. I actually enjoyed the detective-esque story line and, surprisingly, the Dracula part as well! I'm not a huge vampire fan, but I thought his presence in this book was a fun addition.
- Don Perlin's pencils were a little bit inconsistent - great most of the time, but occasionally too simplistic. Overall though he did a good job - especially given that some of his panels were halfway covered up by the superfluous dialogue!
- I don't really recall the writer of this issue, but maybe that's because his dialogue was even more inconsistent than the art! It was ok, but at times waxed unnecessarily long. It is a good thing this was a cool story because that kept me from nitpicking the dialogue too much.
