Conan'll Be Back, Baby!
I'll admit to not being very schooled in the history and stories of the famous Conan. My first association with the character was the 1982 movie starring none other than the Governator: Arnold Schwarzenegger. So maybe I'm not the best person to judge the accuracy of this comic, but I can tell you what I thought about this comic - and here's a hint: I wasn't too impressed.
Synopsis:
When Conan and his monster friend, Keiv, wash up on a beach outside the city of Becharadur they are unwittingly dragged into an elaborate ruse - one in which the citizens are made to believe that Conan is a redeemer come to save them from the wrath of Imhotep and his destroying horsemen. Meanwhile our barbarian friend begins to enjoy the decadent lifestyle... that is until some nasty visitors show up and the people choose the wrong savior!
My 2 Cents:
This was kind of a weak filler story. I mean the story idea was ok, but it just didn't flow well. The biggest disappointment was the 9 page prologue which focused nearly exclusively on an unrelated character who only shows up in this issue! I want my 3 quarters back! There were other oddities too, like several characters who only appear in a few panels and conduct dialogue that is meaningless to the story line. Anyway, I really liked the part about Imhotep coming to destroy the city, and there were some good art panels too.
