Daredevil!
Gosh, I recently realized that I haven't even reviewed any issues of my all-time favorite series: Daredevil - shame on me! So I'll get the ball rolling by taking a look at an issue I bought a decade ago but never read. And what a great cover huh?!
Synopsis:
This "issue of big surprises" starts with our friend Daredevil strapped to a skeleton horse, with a Death's Head mask on, parading through the woods of Vermont like a crazy person! When the police finally stop him and discover that it's really Daredevil, he asks that they take him to the Pages' house - where Karen and her mother are trying to figure out what happened to Mr. Page. With the help of our red-clad friend Karen follows their new butler to an old mill where she and Daredevil are attacked by - wait for it... the *real* Death's Head! DD does battle with Mr. Head, and also uses his Captain-Kirk-like ability to mentally confound the villain and trick him into revealing that he is actually Karen's father! Gasp! Unfortunately Mr. Page/Head dies, and while Karen is mourning at the funeral Daredevil asks her to remove his mask - thus revealing his true identity as Matthew Murdock! Double Gasp!!
My 2 Cents:
I always thought that Karen Page was the cutest of Matt's secretaries / girlfriends, but while growing up during the 1980s she was always a washed up actress / crack-whore, so I couldn't blame him for not pursuing her with more gusto. However, this issue shows that (at one point anyway) Matt liked her enough to share his deepest secret. Hmm... could that be part of the reason her life goes down the drain in the 80s?
