Still on the Trail of Hobgoblin!
When I read Spider-man #246 I was a bit disappointed that Hobgoblin didn't play a bigger part in the story, so I was excited to get back to the storyline in this issue. Yeah, turns out Spidey is still looking for Hobgoblin, but he doesn't get too far in this issue. Oh well, I'm sure he will next time... right?
Synopsis:
Spider-man drops in and pesters Arthur "Nose" Norton for some information about Hobgoblin, but Arthur doesn't know anything. Oh well, Spidey decides to follow him anyway. Along the way Peter reminisces about both Black Cat and Mary Jane Watson. Hmm... who should he go with? C'mon - it's not a hard decision in my book - go for MJ, Peter! Anyhow, back to the story. It turns out the "Nose" delivers a weapon to a warehouse full of thugs who are planning a heist! Oh no! Peter steps in to stop them, but who should come along and foil his fun? The Frog-man, that's who! The bad guys escape and Spidey has to race to stop them at the scene of the crime. But once he gets there he realizes one of the crooks is crazy, and has recovered artifacts that turn him into the amazing, the sensational, the one and only "Thunderball" - but we the readers will have to tune in next issue to see how the fight goes down.
My 2 Cents:
Ah, the father and son team of artists know as "The Romitas" - they do excellent work my friends, and this issue is no exception! I'm a big fan of good '80s art, and I wasn't disappointed here. The story was ok, but I wish it didn't drag its heels concerning the big, overall plot point: who is Hobgoblin? Yes, I know the answer, but it is still fun reading through this arc and seeing the story develop. The dialogue and some of the plot points were a bit weak (which surprises me, since I am also a fan of Roger Stern) but ultimately forgivable. Still a great comic and one I recommend picking up - especially if you are a Spidey fan.
