It Is Only 10 Cents!

I have a collection of about 1,000 comics or so, and not one of them is a 10 cent issue... well, except for this one. Too bad I don't own one of the Batman comics that originally sold for 10 cents back in the day! Oh well, I can dream right? And maybe that is something I need to put on my comic bucket list!

Synopsis:

The first few pages are devoted to explaining how young Bruce Wayne grew up to become the Batman we all know and love today. Then we move into the present as Batman and a woman named Sasha prepare to spend a night on the town fighting crime and saving lives. Sasha, by the way, is a woman who was hired to be Bruce's bodyguard but then found out his "little secret" - so now she is helping him in both aspects of his life. That is kind of nifty! Anyway, after doing good deeds all night long the two return to Bruce's home to find a dead woman. Eek! The problem is the GCPD also show up at the same time, and things don't look good for Mr. Wayne! Thus this story is the perfect lead in to the 7-part "Bruce Wayne: Murderer" cross over extravaganza... woo-hoo.

My 2 Cents:

So, I remember buying this issue when it first came out over 10 years ago, and the only reason I got it was because it only cost 10 cents! How could I pass it up? Anyway, I remember liking it then, and I was surprised to see that Greg Rucka was the writer because I have since come to like his stories quite a bit. This was a fun issue mixing both the classic and modern Batman. I didn't much care for the outsider narration (from Sasha) too much, but it did the job. A quick read with some classic scenes - yeah, this is perfect lead-in fodder for a big cross over event.

How I Rate This Issue:

  • Story: 3 stars
  • Art: 3 stars
  • Fun Factor: 4 stars
