A Bit of History with this issue:

As a kid I read a lot of comics, but I only knew a few other people who read them. One such person was my good friend Peter, and his favorite series was ElfQuest. He liked it so much that he got me to try a few issues, and I enjoyed them too. I only ended up buying one issue (because I read all of his instead!) which was this one. I thought it was high time to give it a try again - and I'm glad I did!

The Reading Experience:

This issue starts out with Cutter, a young Elf chief, telling a story about his mother and father and a great big beast. Crash! Boom! Bang! There is some good fighting, and then a few flattering words from some of the ladies in the tribe. Then the story shifts gears and the reader is treated to a somewhat longer story about Cutter's tribe in the village of the Sun Folk. Huh - what? Well, as I discovered later, this issue is actually a re-print of 2 of the original ElfQuest comics from the late '70s. That little tid-bit helps explain the abruptly jarring flow of events in this issue. Anyway, Cutter's tribe mates feel a little uncomfortable in the village, but he shuts them up because he has the hots for one of the hot women folk. Wink-wink, nudge-nudge! In the end they all find something they can agree upon when a group of rampaging horse-thingeys run through the village after fleeing the nearby volcano. Hooray! Can't we all just be friends?
