DRAMA THERAPYPhoebe in Wonderland poster

Have you ever been in a play? It is fun, and really could be considered therapeutic. I was in Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs when I was in 4th grade and took great pleasure from acting like someone else - even if it was only for a while. It seems the young girl in this movie also finds play acting to be nice therapy - at least for a little while.

  • Starring: Elle Fanning, Patricia Clarkson, Felicity Huffman
  • Rated: Rated PG-13 for thematic material and brief strong language
  • Released: 2008
  • Genre: Drama
  • My Opinion: Good

NON SPOILER SUMMARY

Phoebe is a 9 year old girl who has Tourette's syndrome, and that isn't easy. It isn't easy for her parents and sister either, who get stressed out when Phoebe acts unpredictably. Phoebe finds some solace, though, when she tries out for the school play of Alice in Wonderland - directed by the weird drama teacher Miss Dodger. But when her mother yanks her out of the play Phoebe's world really begins to come apart, and that is sad.

RUSTY’S REVIEW

  • This movie seemed to bill itself as a fun, feel good movie for the whole family... but it isn't. Don't mistake me - it is a good show, but it has some grown-up themes in it. Just thought you'd want to know.
  • Oh my gosh - the actors in this show were awesome! Especially Phoebe and her little sister. I love to watch movies where the kid actors really blow me away - nice work!
  • There are some subtle fantasy elements in the movie that were fun to see.
