Our family writing group held Round 10 in December of 2006. I once again submitted a pair of poems that I had written a decade earlier when I was taking a creative writing class at the local college. Both of my poems were about the sun, and this first one focused on its battle with the daily morning fog.
The Natural Battle
by Rusty Keele
A gray, gloomy fog has settled over the city
It is soft and slow and terrible
Like a malignant disease in a healthy body
Killing... slowly but surely.
Now the sun arrives
A general in the army of good
Arriving in the nick of time
To disperse of the evil fog.
A silent battle takes place
As the general sends out his warriors of light
And they pierce the soft belly of the evil fog
To reverse the role of destruction.
Now joy is brought
Hope is returned
And happiness prevails
As the sun wins the lopsided battle.
Soon the battle is over
And the general will reign for a day
Only to return tomorrow
And battle again.
